Lynn Miller CWR PhD, originally from New Zealand, immersed herself in wildlife from an early age. Her journey led her abroad to pursue Conservation Biology and Environmental Toxicology studies in England, Canada, and the USA. With a serendipitous entry into wildlife rehabilitation, she has become a respected figure in the field, founding Le Nichoir in Quebec, working in the USA, and contributing globally through the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (IWRC). After four decades of learning from leaders in the field, Lynn is now back in New Zealand, focusing on her passion for education.

OUR SERVICES

WildWays Services

I have had the privilege of working with wildlife in rehabilitation for over 40 years. In the beginning, so much was unknown, and we extrapolated from veterinary science. However now wildlife rehabilitation is a profession in its own right. That means caring for each species and in circumstances that are often unique to that individual wild patient. Adapting and creating options for care has come at great cost to many of our patients as we often learned the hard way. Taking lessons from the biological and veterinary sciences, natural history, toxicology, parasitology, zoonoses, captive management, and pathology, while adapting housing and habitats to help our wild patients recover and regain their fitness, are all fields that rehabilitators need to understand and all the while maintaining permits and continuing education. So many new to this field do feel daunted by the need to know so much, and yet are unable to find mentors or support as they learn. This is especially so in many regions where language is part of that barrier. WildWays will help fill these gaps, while supporting new and experienced rehabilitators with science based educational units.

I do not remember the first time I met Lynn Miller or which lecture sparked my interest. What I do remember is that, after 20 years as a wildlife rehabilitator, she was teaching me new things. Beyond that, they were new things with detailed scientific backup. I remember chasing her down for more information, which she gladly provided. I also remember the conversations outside the lecture rooms. Those conversations and sparks of interest and renewed passion for learning is what Lynn brings to all of her lectures. The minutia is what sparks her interest and her talent lies in being able to apply it to the much larger picture.
